Autumn

We are blessed to live in a valley where one can grow fruit.  In spring, the blossoms scent the air. In autumn, it is the fruit itself which makes every breath a pleasure to the senses (and bring the bears down from the hills but we won't think about that.) When I step out on my back deck, the fragrance of grapes mingled with sweet peas (they finally started to grow) fills the air.  Sometimes when the breeze is right, the scent of fresh apple wafts over from the nearby packing plant.

Our yard has 2 plum trees, one in the back yard which yields its fruit about one month earlier than the one in the shaded front yard.  This keeps us supplied with plums for a quite a length of time. This year the back tree gave us about 120 lbs.  We decided to try making prunes .. it was really rather nifty .. they taste surprisingly good. Michelle has decided she wants some plum jam .. so tomorrow I will use the plums from the front tree to make up a batch of jam for her.

Yup .. it is indeed a wonderful thing to live in a fruit valley. :)
